The Beucher Competition will not be held
this academic year.

The Alan and Joyce Beucher Concerto Competition was established by a gift from Susan Beucher Cady and George L. Cady '72, P '08, '11, in honor of Susan's parents. Alan and Joyce Beucher both had careers in music: Alan was the Master of Ceremonies for Radio City Music Hall where he sang and introduced the Rockettes for more than 20,000 performances; and Joyce taught elementary school music and performed choral works on Long Island.

Rehearsal Schedule

As is apparent to all, the number of people choosing to join the orchestra this year has been unusually small. This is not something only affecting the orchestra, but seems to be something of a pattern affecting other groups as well. Consequently, some of the plans based on previous years are not practicable. I am certainly most hopeful that there will be a concert as usual in November, but until that is confirmed, and rehearsals are dedicated to that, we shall continue to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7 till 9 pm, for the pleasure of playing together in a large ensemble. There is also the possibility of smaller groups forming and rehearsing at various times and places.

College Orchestra

The  Orchestra is open to all members of the Middlebury Community. The first phase consists of open rehearsals, in which all are invited to participate, at which there is a wide variety of repertoire to read and try out during these rehearsals. From this process, an orchestra and specific repertoire emerges. All players for the concert must be able to commit to the 5 rehearsals leading up to it. If you would like to participate, and to receive full detailed information, contact the conductor, Andrew Massey. amassey@middlebury.edu

The Middlebury College Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra, that offers several concerts each academic year. The orchestra is open to all members of the Middlebury Community, and also interested players in the wider central Vermont area.

Membership is by audition; all positions are open as the year begins. Full details below

Rehearsal Schedule

Generally, full orchestra rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9 pm.

Details of each concert and its rehearsals, and rehearsal details for each week, will be posted to the web page, and circulated by email.
