The Plattsburgh State Cardinals will host the 2013 PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut at the Stafford Ice Arena located in Plattsburgh, New York. Middlebury and Norwich will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29th, with the Cardinals set to take on Wisconsin-Superior at 7:00 p.m.
D3football.com has named junior Matthew Benedict (Eden, N.Y.) to its national team of the week. The safety made 19 total tackles as Middlebury defeated Trinity for the third time in the last four meetings in Vermont. Benedict made 10 solo stops, including one tackle for lost yardage.
The squash center officially opened on Saturday, October 26th on homecoming weekend. At the opening reception, President Liebowitz said the spectacular, nine-court facility – and the new Field House under construction – are the first buildings in the history of the College to be fully funded by donors.
D3football.com has named Mike Dola to its national team of the week after a strong performance punting in a 28-17 win at Bates. Dola averaged 47 yards per punt on seven attempts. Additionally, he was 4-4 on PAT’s and had a tackle on one of his kickoffs.
The Middlebury women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) hosted by Mt. Holyoke. Four Panther pairs competed in the “A” flight, named after former Middlebury coach Gail Smith.
The Middlebury women’s soccer program will host its annual fall clinic on Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic will be a fun and intensive training and learning program for high school girls who are reaching for the collegiate level. This past weekend the Middlebury College women's lacrosse team participated in United Way of Addison County's Days of Caring at Leicester Central School. The team spent Sunday morning painting the girls' and boys' bathrooms as well as a number of flower boxes and bike racks outside of the school. It was a rewarding experience for the team as they enjoyed giving back to the Addison County community and look forward to continuing their volunteer work in the future.
Eight members of the Middlebury College softball team earned academic honors when the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) announced its scholar athletes. Each honoree must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher through the spring season.
The Vermont Sports Hall of Fame announced its second class of inductees on Monday, September 9th at historic Centennial Field. Among those inductees were former Middlebury College athletes Phil Latreille ’61 and Ray Fisher ‘10.
The IWLCA has recognized 86 schools in Division III as earning Academic Squad honors for the 2013 season. Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned Academic Squad honors, including NCAA semifinalists Middlebury. In addition, the IWLCA honored 246 student-athletes from 94 different institutions with inclusion in the 2013 Academic Honor Roll.
Middlebury's new squash facility is coming along nicely as the summer comes to an end. The building is expected to open in mid-October, with nine new squash courts as well as an impressive full glass front lobby. Check out the photo gallery below for some recent photos.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today 93 Division III teams (15%) have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-2013 season, including Middlebury.
Middlebury College is hosting its second Summer ITA Tennis Tournament. Students from 22 Colleges and Universities will be competing in this year’s event, as well as high school players from across the region from July 20-22.
Middlebury College women’s lacrosse coach Missy Foote has been named a Regional Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She earns the honor for the second consecutive season and the seventh time overall.
Middlebury’s Lauren Greer (N. Hampton, N.H.) has been named one of the NESCAC's two nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The duo (Elena Crosley - Bowdoin) were chosen among six finalists for the award and will now move on to the national selection.
Two members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team were named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American team. Seniors Billy Chapman (Greenwich, Conn.) and Andrew Metros (Great Neck, N.Y.) were both honored. To be considered for the USILA Scholar All-American, the student-athlete must “be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
Eight senior football players added one more academic accolade to their respective careers, earning recognition by the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. Defensive linemen Andrew Ackerman and James Tilson join offensive linemen Harris Huguenard, Daniel Lungo, and Ling Zhou as recipients of the award, while a pair of linebackers, Andrew Donnelly and John Wiet along with defensive back Andrew Singley round out the eight winners.
The Middlebury women's soccer team is hosting a Babysitting Night on Friday, May 3rd at the Peterson Family Athletic Complex. The event will run from 6pm to 10pm, offering parents the opportunity to plan a nice night out, while leaving their children in a safe, secure, and fun environment. Kids will take part in age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, and movies.
The Middlebury women's soccer team will present a three hour clinic for youth players on April 21st, 2013. The program is open to boys and girls ages 6-13 and will include instruction, fun games and match play. Participants will have the opportunity to work with their favorite Middlebury soccer players while learning fundamental skills, clever tricks and key elements of the game in a fun, challenging, supportive soccer environment. Weather has caused two postponements of Middlebury athletic events. The Rensselaer @ Middlebury women's lacrosse game scheduled for Tuesday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. has been moved to Wednesday at the same time. The men's lacrosse game at St. Lawrence scheduled for the same day will now be played on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
University of Vermont junior Anja Gruber (Leutkrich, Germany) skied to victory in the women's 5-kilometer classic race at the Rikert Nordic Center on Thursday, helping the Catamounts retain the lead after the second day of the 2013 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
With men's winner Jonathan Nordbotten (Kolbotn, Norway) leading the way, the University of Vermont seized the lead as the 2013 NCAA Skiing Championships began with giant slalom races at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl on Wednesday.
