Lynn Hu '14

Economics major, with minors in Political Science and Mathematics

PhD fellow at Pardee RAND Graduate School (PRGS)/RAND Corporation

“Learning about oneself is the hardest and requires a lot of effort and time. Talking to people (including professionals, like life coaches) and reading books can help. Big changes in life requires courage and may seem hard in the beginning but the results will be rewarding.”

Tell us what you do.

I am a PhD fellow at PRGS, and assistant policy researcher at RAND

What have you done since Middlebury?

I joined Teach for China and taught in rural Yunnan for 2 years.

How has your major influenced your life after graduation?

The study of economics is one of the important lenses to look at policy problems and it offers great tools to search for solutions.

When did you know which major you were going to choose?

Sophomore year.

How did you decide what career path you wanted to pursue after graduating?

I spent a lot of time doing internships while really thinking about and exploring my real passion.

Finally, what advice or suggestions do you have for current students as they consider their post-Middlebury futures?

Learning about oneself is the hardest and requires a lot of effort and time. Talking to people (including professionals, like life coaches) and reading books can help. Big changes in life requires courage and may seem hard in the beginning but the results will be rewarding.
