Commencement Weather Statement

The Commencement ceremony will be held outdoors, rain or shine. It is not a tented event. Please come prepared for all weather conditions (warm coats, rain gear, hats, sunscreen, etc.) and wear shoes appropriate for damp, grassy terrain.

Severe Weather

In the event that severe weather poses a safety risk, graduates will not gather to receive their diploma cases and canes. Regrettably, COVID-19 protocols do not allow us to gather indoors with adequate physical distancing to ensure the safety of our graduates and guests.

The ceremonial portion of Commencement would be conducted remotely. Graduates and guests may watch it livestreamed from the comfort and safety of their rooms and accommodations. Please remember, guest are not permitted in campus buildings, including the dormitories.

The ceremony will include the president’s address, the student speaker, the Commencement speaker, and pronouncement of the honorary and bachelor’s degrees conferred. It will conclude with the reading of graduates’ names and the singing of “Gamaliel Painter’s Cane.”

A severe weather announcement would be communicated to graduates by email and posted on the Commencement website as soon as the decision was made. Diploma cases and canes would be mailed to the graduates.
