Why did you choose to attend Middlebury? I chose to attend Middlebury because of its renowned language instruction programs, its proximity to nature, and the perfect size of its student population. Furthermore, Middlebury offered me the perfect mixture of comfort and novelty. I am perpetually studying new languages, meeting new friends, and exploring new woods. Yet every evening I return to the same dorm, the same dining hall, and the same, ever-welcoming library. It is within this environment that I consistently find the exact support and personal growth that I had anticipated encountering when choosing the College.
Is there a J-term experience that stands out as especially memorable, or perhaps a course offering or research opportunity that jumps out? I will never forget my sophomore year J-term. I was in the second chapter of my introductory Russian course, so I could hardly form a basic sentence. After quickly catching up with my friends, our new professor walked into the classroom. She was from Yaroslavl, Russia, and did not speak any English. After a brief panic, I realized that this was going to be an amazing opportunity. Four weeks later (and through lots of miming), my Russian improved drastically. What a remarkable J-term. Thank you, Svetlana!
Favorite Vermont spot? The top of Snake Mountain on a Friday evening just before sunset.
One fun fact about you or unknown talent you have: I’ve never seen a scary movie.
