In Charles Mee’s update of the classic Greek play, Dionysus comes to Thebes where the city’s ruler refuses to acknowledge him as a god. Mee creates striking images of obscenity and beauty in this poetic, quiltlike piece, composed in the way that Max Ernst made his “fatagaga” pieces at the end of World War I.
