A Queer Way Out: The Politics of Queer Emigration from
Dr. Hila Amit Abas, founder of the International Hebrew School in Berlin, published A Queer Way Out – The Politics of Israel Emigration (SUNY Press, 2018) in 2018. In her book, Dr. Amit looks at the motivations for departure, and examines carefully the feeling of unbelonging to the national collective in Israel. Sexual Orientation is revealed in this study as playing a significant role in a decision to emigrate. The book questions national and heterosexual norms such as serving in the army, monogamous relationship and reproduction, as connected to the decision to emigrate.
