A combined talk/reading by Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Professor of English (State University of New York at Fredonia) and 2016-17 Grisham Writer-in-Residence (University of Mississippi), in which she will explore a different way of thinking about environment and discuss “wonder” as an ecological love practice in nature writing. Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s fourth book of poetry, Oceanic, is forthcoming from Copper Canyon and her nature essay collection is forthcoming from Milkweed in 2018.

Problem Solving in Real-World Economics: Mergers, Discriminatory Lending and Drug Pricing

Come learn from three Middlebury Grads that apply their liberal arts training to real world problems in their everyday jobs. Dan Ladd ’14 will talk about how merging companies calculate potential detrimental effects on consumers. Zach Weiss ’15 will talk about how to detect if commercial banks use race and sex as a factor in mortgage-lending decisions. Max Friedman ’12 will talk about pricing and market access issues for medications.

Optional Practical Training Info Session

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will offer an overview of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization process. The focus of this information session will primarily be on post-completion OPT: eligibility, the application process and compliance. All F-1 visa students (especially seniors) who are interested in learning more about this off-campus employment authorization are encouraged to attend.
