Undergrad University of Washington

My Journey to MIIS I grew up in Bellingham, Washington, a small city in the northwestern part of the state. Despite that fact (or perhaps due to it), I have always been fascinated with foreign languages and cultures. I moved to Seattle, later graduating from the University of Washington with a BA in Spanish language and literature and a minor in French language and literature. I then moved to Madrid to work as a researcher and tutor, studying bilingual development in infants. After, I found MIIS and decided to apply, and now I’m here today!

Language of Study

A Language: English

B Language: Spanish

C Language: French

Immersive Opportunities The great thing about being at MIIS (and in a place like Monterey in general) is the chance to work in so many different types of fields. I hope to volunteer with one of the local organizations this summer to put my translation and interpretation skills to work!

My Favorite Things about Monterey Monterey boasts two of my favorite things: nature and multiculturalism. Nestled in a unique part of California’s Central Coast, you can find a little bit of everything here: kayaking, whale watching, hiking, and more. As you walk the streets of Monterey, you’ll undoubtedly pass people from all over the world—I myself hear at least 10 different languages a day just while heading to the grocery store!
