For graduate students at the Monterey Institute, December is a time of long days and nights spent writing papers, studying for exams, or preparing for group presentations. But most students still find time to get into the holiday spirit and for a group of MBA students, that means giving back to the community.

“I’ve thought for awhile that it would be good if the MBA Student Association got involved in a holiday event that would benefit the local community,” says Chris Cavalli, one of the association’s leaders. The MIIS chapter of Net Impact, a group of socially conscious business thinkers, had similar plans. The two groups decided to launch a joint effort. The groups knew they found their cause when they learned that the Monterey Boys and Girls Clubs assists many local low-income families during this time of year. It currently has more families/children who need assistance than volunteers who can provide it.

People are encouraged to provide either a new gift (toys, books, clothing, etc.) for ages 3 to 18 or monetary donations. Checks can be made out to “Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County.” Gifts and donations can be dropped off at the MIIS Student Affairs Office at 440 Van Buren Street. The drive ends at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14. Chris Cavalli adds, “It’s a worthwhile cause and a little help will make a huge difference – we would love to see everyone help out!”
