The new Center on Social Impact Learning at the Monterey Institute will focus on social entrepreneurship and impact investing, overseeing the existing Frontier Market Scouts program and adding new programs aimed at training students for careers in developing economies.
The City Council of Monterey this week officially recognized the outstanding contribution of Monterey Institute students Matthew Nichols and Gabriel Kiritz to the Climate Action Plan, an initiative to reduce the city’s carbon impact.
The focus of the first Monterey Institute Community Innovation Challenge was on addressing Monterey County’s serious water challenges, with five students teaming up for the winning proposal and receiving a $2,500 award.
