Despite the ironic 12-year period of being a vegetarian, Anna Wohlrab earned the nickname “Sausage Anna” due to her childhood love of all sausages. Joining MIIS from Germany, Anna originally resided in a small town near Frankfurt, but Cologne is now her home. At MIIS, Anna is forced to assume a strong German identity, even though she is not considered particularly German by her compatriots. In fact, she finds that Latin Spanish-speaking countries better support her personality. In her second semester, Anna is specializing in Conference Interpreting in German and English, while also pursuing a Conflict Resolution Certificate. The international experiences of the MIIS population influence the campus dynamic. Everyone has lived abroad. Anna savors using the four languages she knows and hearing ones she doesn’t know every day. Working on Allies at MIIS initially intrigued Anna because racism in the U.S. is heartbreaking. She wants racism on campus to be addressed in order for it to be resolved. No matter where they are from, an ally is an honest and sincere person, who is willing to be criticized and to criticize. Because Anna has fought stereotypes all her life, her motivation is proving people wrong. She is showing the world that she can do anything.
