Anthony C. Ogden, Ph.D. is a career international educator with nearly 25 years of experience in international higher education. For over five years, Ogden served as director and faculty member for the Tokyo Center of IES Abroad, the Institute for the International Education of Students. While at Pennsylvania State University, he provided oversight in the administration of education abroad and exchanges programming on all 24 Penn State campuses. Back in his home state of Kentucky, he served as the executive director of Education Abroad and Exchanges at the University of Kentucky, where he co-founded the Kentucky Council on Education Abroad. At Michigan State University (MSU), Ogden directed one of the largest education abroad offices in the country and provided oversight of diverse education abroad programming to support the nearly 3,000 MSU students who earn credit abroad each year.
Ogden has been an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators since 1996, giving numerous presentations, workshops and webinars on various aspects of international education. Ogden is also actively involved with The Forum on Education Abroad, served on the editorial board for the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), and was a founding board member of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA).
Ogden has taught courses on comprehensive internationalization at MIIS since 2016.
Areas of Interest
As an international educator, scholar and two-time Fulbright recipient, Ogden has actively pursued engagement in research and scholarship that informs practice. He has numerous publications to his credit, including the very widely-read essay, “The View from the Veranda: Understanding Today’s Colonial Student” (Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad) and AIEA’s, “Toward a Research Agenda for U.S. Education Abroad.” He recently co-edited a volume on the emerging issue of scholar-practitioners in international education. Ogden is currently working on two forthcoming edited volumes to be released in 2018/19.
