After a nine-year, multifaceted effort to reduce its carbon footprint, Middlebury has achieved carbon neutrality.
The City Council of Monterey this week officially recognized the outstanding contribution of Monterey Institute students Matthew Nichols and Gabriel Kiritz to the Climate Action Plan, an initiative to reduce the city’s carbon impact.
The stakes are high as four Monterey Institute students travel to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland later this month to participate in the final round of the Business for a Better World Competition, after beating out competitors from universities around the world.
On this morning’s New York Times op-ed page, Judith Kildow, director of the National Ocean Economics Program at the Monterey Institute and Professor Jason Scorse, director of its Center for the Blue Economy, call for the federal government to re-evaluate the National Flood Insurance Program.
