“Embrace uncertainty” became the adopted theme of an intensive English program offered by the Institute’s Custom Language Services in November for 36 civil servants from Taiwan.
Who says German is not a romantic language? For a pair of Monterey Institute alumni, a group project on “Romancing the Germans” turned out to be the beginning of a lasting love story.
“Communicating culture is a large part of language teaching,” says Monterey Institute alumna Lama Nassif, the newest member of the Arabic Department faculty at Middlebury.
The Monterey Institute and UC Santa Cruz have signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow undergraduate students in the UCSC Linguistics Department to receive credits towards their graduate degrees in language teaching at MIIS.

Monterey Institute students have partnered with seven local community organizations this spring, working with them on diverse projects as part of a new service-learning course that teaches program design by merging theory with practice.
Four students in the Monterey Institute‘s Intensive English Language program are also teaching free courses in their native languages as part of the B.U.I.L.D. student language club.
