Middlebury, Vt. and New York, NY – Potomac Theatre Project (PTP/NYC), in association with Middlebury College, proudly presents its 29th repertory season, its 9th consecutive in New York City, running from July 7 – August 9, 2015 in a limited 5-week Off-Broadway engagement at The Atlantic Stage 2, located at 330 West 16th Street between 8th & 9th Avenues.

This season’s line-up includes a revival of Howard Barker’s Scenes From An Execution, starring five-time Tony Award nominee and two-time Drama Desk Award winner Jan Maxwell in her 6th collaboration with PTP, directed by PTP’s Co-Artistic Director Richard Romagnoli, and a double bill featuring the New York Premiere of Howard Barker’s Judith: A Parting from the Body, directed by Richard Romagnoli, along with a revival of Caryl Churchill’s Vinegar Tom, directed by PTP’s Co-Artistic Director Cheryl Faraone. Previews begin on July 7 and openings begin on July 14.

This summer, 14 Middlebury students will be joining the PTP/NYC company, 10 in acting, three as supporting crew, and one in costume design. Prior to taking residence at The Atlantic Stage 2, the company spends three weeks in preparation at Middlebury, including daily 5-hour rehearsals for each show. Company members also work on sets, props, and costumes.

“I saw PTP as a chance to get an authentic taste of the life of a professional actor while also learning to appreciate the immense amount of labor and planning that is required to stage a production,” said Melissa MacDonald ’15, who will be acting with the company.

Caitlin Duffy ’15.5, also in acting, is thinking about how her PTP/NYC training is preparing her for life after college. “Since we work both on and off stage, we must develop and hone strong work ethic, technical skills and professionalism,” Duffy said. “These are qualities that will help us make the transition from Middlebury into the greater theatre community, or into whatever community we choose to become a part of after we graduate.”

The long days in Middlebury pay off when the company arrives in New York, says Faraone. “The actors and crew all get to know each other very well, which is a positive process that is invaluable for creating the onstage chemistry and trust-building that make for exciting acting.”

After three weeks of rehearsal in Middlebury, the PTP/NYC company will present three work-in-progress showings. Held in the Seeler Studio Theatre of the Mahaney Center for the Arts, these showings are free and open to the public. For mature audiences only:

Scenes from an Execution: Friday, June 26 at Noon
