Middlebury Ski Team Rides In The First Annual Kelly Brush Century Bike Ride
September 5, 2006
Middlebury College Ski Team member Kelly Brush sustained a severe spinal cord injury in February 18, 2006 while competing in the Williams College Ski Carnival. After spending nearly three months at Craig Hospital in Colorado, Kelly is adapting to her new life and will return to Middlebury this fall to join her friends and classmates. Currently, Kelly has use of her arms and feeling at the chest level and above, but is dependent on a wheelchair to get around.
On Saturday, September 16, 2006 the Middlebury Ski Team will inaugurate the Kelly Brush Century Bike Ride. The bike ride is a benefit organized by the Middlebury Ski Team to raise funds for the Kelly Brush Trust, allowing Kelly to purchase adaptive sports equipment. Participation in this year's ride will be limited to the members of the Middlebury Ski Team. Each team member will complete a 50- or 100-mile bike loop which will start at the modular homes on the western edge of the Middlebury College campus, wind through Addison County, and finish again at the modular homes.
The Kelly Brush Century Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 8:30AM and will conclude at approximately 4:30 p.m. Individuals who make a donation to support the Kelly Brush Trust will also be entered into a raffle that will take place after the bike ride. Raffle prizes include items from the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, Rossignol, Peak Performance Ski Shop, Trek, Spyder, Swix and Oakley.
The first piece of equipment purchased with the proceeds from this event will be an adaptive mono-ski, allowing Kelly to hit the slopes again this winter with the rest of the Middlebury College Ski Team.
