March 20, 2004

3/21/04 - Three members of the Middlebury College swimming and diving team had top finishes for the Panthers at last weekend's NCAA Championship meet.


Sophomore Rob Hillas (Princeton, N.J.) finished 14th overall on the 1,650 free with a time of 16:05.58, setting a new varsity record and earning honorable mention All-American status. In the 500 free, Hillas also set a varsity record with a time of 4:42.27 in the 500 free, placing him 29th overall.


In the three-meter diving competition, sophomore Tristram Arscott (Atherton, Calif.) came in 16th with 340.50 points, earning honorable mention All-American status. (complete results)

Middlebury College women's swim team placed ninth out of 53 teams at the NCAA Championships last week.  (complete results)

2/29/04 - The Panther men's swimming and diving team placed fourth overall at the 2004 NESCAC Championship hosted by Bowdoin. Williams won the meet, followed by Amherst and Tufts.(results)

February 22, 2004

2/22/04 - The women's swimming and diving team turned in a solid performance at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Wesleyan. The Panthers placed second overall with 1,479 points, behind champion Williams, who amassed 1,711 points. 2/7/04 - The Middlebury men and women both hosted the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday at the natatorium. On senior day, Taylor Bolz set the women's pool record with a time of 32.21 in the 50 breast. In one-meter diving, Courtney Campell and Tessa Truex both made NCAA qualifying standards, as did Tris Arscott on the men's side. (women's results) (men's results)

2/4/04 - Four Middlebury women won events as they fell to Division I Dartmouth, 125-110. Lizzy Dewitt won the 100 back, Sarah Groff won the 500 free, Taylor Bolz was a victor in the 100 breaststroke, while Tessa Truex won the 3-meter diving competition. (results)

2/4/04 - Middlebury won two events as they were handed a 124-97 loss by Division I Dartmouth. Alex Demas won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.90, while the 200 free relay team of David Hawkins, Jason Korsmeyer, John Rayburn and Matt Clark, won the event in 1:29.20. (results)

1/31/04 - Middlebury lost for the first time in four meets as they were defeated 181-119 at Williams. Barbara Van der Veer won two events on the day, while two relay teams made NCAA "B" cuts. The team of Van der Veer, Lizzy Dewitt, Taylor Bloz and Martha Goebel did so in the 200 medley relay, while Van der Veer, Goebel, DeWitt and Teague Douglas did so in the 200 free. Van der Veer's time in the 100, also made an NCAA "B" cut. (results)

1/31/04 - Middlebury saw its four-meet winning streak come to an end as they were defeated 184-166 at Williams. Event winners included Tim Lux, Rob Collier, David Hawkins and Alex Demas. (results)

1/24/04 - Eight different Middlebury swimmers won events as the Panthers topped Unoin, 172-110. The 800 freesyle relay team of Lizzy Dewitt, Mollie Reed, Teague Douglas and Sarah Groff set a pool record with a time of 7:58.24 to highlight the day. (results)

1/24/04 - Karl Wittington, Tim Lux and David Hawkins each won two events to pace Middlebury, as they fell 172-153 to Union. Wittington won the 400 IM (4:23.28) and the 500 free (4:53.10), Lux picked up wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.60) and the 50 breaststroke (29.15), while Hawkins won the 50 back (26.46) and the 50 fly (24.05). 1/17/04 - Sarah Groff won the 200 and 500 free to lead the Middlebury women past Hamilton, 166-77. The 400 freestyle relay team of Barbara Van der Veer, Teague Douglas, Martha Goebel and Lizzy Dewitt set a pool record and made an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 3:38.50. (results)

1/17/04 - Rob Collier and Jamie Lamere each won a pair of events to lead the Middlebury men past Hamilton, 145-92. Collier won the 200 fly and 200 IM, while Lamere picked up wins the 200 and 500 free. (results)
