Alexander Huang Publishes Weltliterature und Welttheater
Posted November 2012
Alexander Huang, Associate Professor of English, Theatre and Dance, and International Affairs at George Washington University, and early modern studies faculty member at Bread Loaf/Santa Fe and Oxford, has published Weltliterature und Welttheater: Ästhetischer Humanismus in der kulturellen Globalisierung [World Literature and World Theatre: Aesthetic Humanism in Cultural Globalization] (Transcript Verlag, July 2012).
The text argues that aesthetic humanism--as a secular investment in shared cultural values--counters various practices of subjugation such as colonialism and cultural imperialism that have dominated the recent historical record of globalization. Professor Huang received a Stiftung Mercator grant to publish the book.
Professor Huang has also recently been featured in The Shakespeare Standard for his Global Shakespeares project.
