Fellowships, Scholarships & Stipends 2013
In addition to regular financial aid, Bread Loaf offers a limited number fellowships, scholarships, and stipends that are made possible by grants and special funding.
C.E. & S. Foundation Fellowships for Kentucky Teachers
Thanks to a generous grant from the C.E. & S. Foundation in Louisville and assistance from Middlebury College, Bread Loaf will offer fellowships for eight Kentucky public school teachers in 2013, covering a substantial portion of costs for a Bread Loaf summer. Fellowship recipients will attend the Bread Loaf School of English during the summer, become active members of the Bread Loaf Teacher Network, and then engage their Kentucky students in networked activities during the school year. Bickimer Fellowships for Ohio Teachers: Promise of Learnings, Inc (POLI) will provide five Bickimer Fellowships for Ohio public school teachers in 2013, covering a substantial portion of costs for a Bread Loaf summer. The Ohio teachers will attend the Bread Loaf School of English during the summer, become active members of the Bread Loaf Teacher Network, and then engage their Ohio students in networked activities during the school year. Esperanza Fellowships for Teachers in Lawrence, Mass., Schools: Thanks to generous funding from the Nathaniel and Elizabeth P. Stevens Foundation and private donors, Bread Loaf will offer a limited number of fellowships for full-time Lawrence public school teachers in 2013. The Lawrence teachers will study at the Bread Loaf School of English for the 2013 summer session, join the Bread Loaf Teacher Network (BLTN), and work collaboratively with other BLTN members on innovative pedagogical projects and teacher research during the academic year. Awards for Public School Teachers in NC, NM, and VT: The Bread Loaf School of English will offer a limited number of $500 awards to Bread Loaf students who teach in public schools in North Carolina, New Mexico, and Vermont, to support classroom projects and participation in Bread Loaf Teacher Network activities. These awards are made possible by a grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations. Interested applicants should apply to Bread Loaf and indicate on their application form that they would like to be considered for a stipend.
Special Scholarships for Students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities: The Bread Loaf School of English, which is committed to increasing and supporting the diversity of its student population, offers a limited number of special scholarships for graduates of Historically Black Colleges or Universities and Tribal Colleges and Universities. The scholarships will cover up to 100% of demonstrated financial need, as determined by Middlebury's Student Financial Services Office. The program is tailored to the talents and needs of K-12 English and language arts teachers, and we encourage applications from graduates who are currently teaching. Undergraduates from these institutions who will have completed their junior year by summer 2013 are also eligible to apply.
