Conference Staff

Michael Collier, Director of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conferences, has published six books of poems, including The Ledge, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and, most recently, An Individual History. With Charles Baxter and Edward Hirsch, he edited A William Maxwell Portrait. He has received an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Guggenheim Foundation and Thomas Watson Foundation fellowships, and two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. Poet Laureate of Maryland from 2001-2004, he teaches in the creative writing program at the University of Maryland.

Jennifer Grotz, Assistant Director of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conferences and Director of the Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference, is the author of three books of poetry, including The Window Left Open, forthcoming in 2016. Psalms of All My Days, translations from the French poet Patrice de La Tour du Pin, appeared in 2014. Rochester Knockings, by the Tunisian novelist Hubert Haddad, is forthcoming from in 2015. She is also co-translating with Piotr Sommer a selection from the Polish of the poetry of Jerzy Ficowski. Some of the poems from that collection have recently appeared in New York Review of Books, Poetry, Parnassus, and The Nation. She teaches poetry and translation at the University of Rochester, where she also serves as program director for the Masters in the Art of Literary Translation.

Noreen Cargill, Administrative Director of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conferences, has worked for Middlebury College since 2000. Before joining the Conference, she worked in a library, a bookstore, and a small publishing house. She enjoys freelance writing and has published in Better Homes and Gardens, the Boston Globe, Vermont Life, and Vermont Magazine.

Jason Lamb, Coordinator of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conferences, taught middle school English for several years, before recruiting emerging and established writers for the MFA in Writing program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.  He writes short fiction, and spends any free time he has hiking in the mountains.  Jason recently summited all forty-eight mountains over four thousand feet in New Hampshire and is currently working on finishing the remaining New England mountains, with occasional trips to the Cascade Range in Washington state.
