well known poets and prose writers

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. ? New England Review (NER), a publication of Middlebury College, is pleased to announce the release of the latest issue (Volume 27, #3), now available in the College Book Store and through the journal's website.

The new issue contains 270 pages of new work in a variety of genres, from lyric poetry to artistic manifesto. Poets in this issue include David Baker, Rachel Hadas, Richard Kenney and Campbell McGrath, as well as newcomers Alex Lemon and Alison Stine. Two debut fiction writers, Rick Canning and 1982 Middlebury graduate Henriette Lazaridis Power, join past NER contributors Marshall Boswell and Glen Pourciau. In nonfiction, Craig Nelson looks back on Thomas Paine and the making of his bestselling "Common Sense," and novelist B. H. Friedman recalls his travels with Dr. Timothy Leary. Lizzie Hutton rediscovers an intriguing but forgotten French writer in "The Sublime Rebellion of Eveline Mahyère," while Michael R. Katz, Middlebury College C.V. Starr Professor of Russian Studies, presents a translation of Boris Akunin's "The Seagull," a comic continuation of Chekhov's play of the same name.

New England Review, a literary quarterly founded in 1978, has been a publication of Middlebury College for nearly 25 years. The selection of writings in each issue presents a broad spectrum of viewpoints and genres, including traditional and experimental fiction, translations in poetry and prose, criticism, letters from abroad, reviews in arts and literature, and rediscoveries. Works published in NER are regularly selected for the "Best American" series, Best New Poets, Best American Nonrequired Writing, New Stories from the South: The Year's Best, The O. Henry Prize Stories, and for the Pushcart Prize. NER is edited by Middlebury College Fulton Professor of Humanities Stephen Donadio. The poetry editor is C.
