Award-winning photojournalist and National Geographic Speakers Bureau member Steve McCurry will give a talk titled “Unveiling the Face of War: 22 Years as a National Geographic Photographer” on Sunday, April 20 at 4:30 p.m. in Dana Auditorium of Sunderland Language Center at Middlebury College.

McCurry’s most famous photograph, “Afghan Girl,” was taken in 1984 when he was at an Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan.  More recently, in 2004, this photo made headlines again when McCurry was able to locate the girl and photograph her 20 years later.

McCurry has received numerous awards including the National Press Photographers Association’s 1984 Magazine Photographer of the Year award, four first prizes in the 1984 World Photo Contest, and American Photo magazine’s 2002 Photographer of the Year award.
