Middlebury College senior and dance major Adriane Medina will present her senior independent work Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, at 8 p.m., in the Dance Theatre of the Kevin P. Mahaney ‘84 Center for the Arts at Middlebury College.

The program, titled “Moments on a String,” consists of three pieces focusing on collaboration and integration. A self-choreographed solo features original music by sophomore Philippe Bronchtein. Another solo, created in conjunction with Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance Tiffany Rhynard, explores the fusion of tap and contemporary dance in a multimedia environment. The final piece, an investigation of movement and nuances in dancing style, features first-year students Olivia Claudio, Jeremy Cline and Cat Miller, sophomore Sophie Levine, and junior Simon Thomas-Train.

According to a reviewer at The Middlebury Campus, Medina creates “a kaleidoscope of movement that bends and manipulates [dancers’] relationships with each other [generating] a contagious sense of energy and excitement.”

The concert also showcases a series of solos by Middlebury College Dance Program faculty, including a solo choreographed and performed by Artist-in-Residence Leyya Tawil, a multimedia solo by Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance Tiffany Rhynard, and a solo created by Peter Schmitz, a visiting New York City choreographer, for Dance Program Chair and Professor of Dance Andrea Olsen, with an original score by Vermont musician Michael Chorney.

The performance is sponsored by the Middlebury College Department of Theatre and Dance.
