MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The first Addison County Green Energy Expo will take place Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Middlebury College’s McCardell Bicentennial Hall, located on Bicentennial Way off College Street (Route 125).

The expo, which is free and open to the public, will focus on renewable energy opportunities in Vermont. Workshop titles include: Are You Ready For Wind Power?, Farm Energy in Addison County, Beyond Petroleum: Alternative Heating Options, Eat Local Using Reliable Year-Round Food Storage,  Living Off the Grid, and several other topics. Each workshop will be offered twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

“We hope this expo will bring together hundreds of Addison County homeowners, businesspeople, and renewable energy aficionados for a day of conversation and networking about green energy,” said Robert Keren of Middlebury College, one of the event’s organizers.

There will also be 30 exhibits representing alternative energy, including solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, biofuels, carbon reduction, green construction, hybrid and electric motor vehicles, and local and regional non-profit organizations.

Food and beverages - many from local sources - will be available throughout the day. There will be live demonstrations of energy-saving products and ideas, and families are welcome to attend.

In cooperation with Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR), the expo is providing free bus transportation from Bristol, New Haven and Vergennes directly to McCardell Bicentennial Hall. For more information contact ACTR at 388-1946.

The Green Energy Expo will be Addison County’s first energy fair. The event is a collaboration of several regional organizations under the umbrella of the Middlebury Area Creative Economy Energy Group with sponsorship from Chittenden Bank, Efficiency Vermont, Nathaniel Group, and National Bank of Middlebury.
