President Ron Liebowitz Earns 'Outstanding Achievement' Award from Bucknell Alumni Association

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell University Alumni Association last weekend honored Middlebury President Ron Liebowitz, a member of the class of 1979, with its award for “Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession.” Bucknell President John Bravman and Alumni Association President Katie Malague presented the award to Liebowitz during the university’s alumni reunion celebration.

“The Bucknell Alumni Association was proud to honor Ron Liebowitz,” said Josh Grill, executive director of alumni relations. “We recognize Ron’s leadership as president of Middlebury College and his commitment to liberal arts education, social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and global education.”

The alumni association’s award citation noted several highlights from Liebowitz’s term as Middlebury president, including his work to define a contemporary liberal arts education, create a new model for the global liberal arts college, and develop innovative ways to control the cost of attending college. The award also noted his expert guidance through the deep recession of 2008, from which Middlebury emerged with a balanced budget and with its mission intact.

At Bucknell, Liebowitz majored in economics and geography, and competed as a varsity swimmer.  He was one of four alumni to receive awards this year.
