MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Early on the evening of February 28, a fire broke out at a non-College owned off-campus house on Weybridge Street where five Middlebury students rented and shared an apartment. All of the students are safe, but the building and its contents are severely damaged. At this point, the cause of the fire is unknown.

The College is working to find alternative housing for the students and to assess their longer term needs as a result of what was lost in the fire.

This morning President Ron Liebowitz and Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of the College Katy Smith Abbott alerted faculty, staff, and students about the fire in an all-campus email message, expressing the College community’s deep gratitude for the safety of the students and thanking local fire fighters and emergency responders for their efforts overnight.

The Middlebury Fire Department received assistance from the towns of Bristol, Ferrisburg, Vergennes, New Haven, Salisbury, Cornwall, and Weybridge. Middlebury EMS also responded to the scene.
