Preview the 10th Annual Spring Symposium [video]

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The tenth annual spring symposium celebrating the creative and scholarly work of Middlebury students will take place on Friday, April 15, starting at 9 a.m. at McCardell Bicentennial Hall. President Laurie Patton will kick off the day’s festivities, which are free and open to the public, with a welcome greeting at Tormondsen Great Hall. Student presenters should arrive at 8:30 to pick up their badges. The day will conclude with a closing reception in the Great Hall at 4:45 p.m.

More than 300 students typically participate in the symposium through a variety of activities that include large poster sessions, individual presentations, group presentations, and performances. Presentation and research topics encompass all areas of the liberal arts curriculum, with nearly every major and minor represented.

“The symposium is really an opportunity for the students to take center stage and to share what they’ve been doing with a broader audience,” said Lisa Gates, associate dean for fellowships and research. “For anyone who enjoys learning new things, the symposium is a treasure trove, with short, fascinating presentations offered throughout the day.”

In a departure from previous years, all events will take place on one day, except for a theatre performance of “The Pitchfork Disney,” which will take place on Thursday and Friday evenings. More information about the symposium, including a full schedule of presentations, is available online.
