MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury celebrated “Muggle Quidditch” once again on the campus field (known as “Battell Beach”) where the sport was invented 12 years ago. At the October 7 quidditch festival, teams from several colleges and universities joined Middlebury Commons teams for a day of chasing, seeking, snitching, and potions. The festival included food trucks from around the region and special activities for kids.

Collegiate quidditch was invented by Middlebury students Alex Benepe ’09 and Xander Manshel ’09, who hosted the first “World Cup” on campus in the fall of 2005. The new sport subsequently became a national phenomenon with teams formed at hundreds of colleges.
