Alumni Return for Homecoming 2017 [video]

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – After an unusually balmy October, a taste of fall was in the air when several hundred alumni and their families returned to campus for Homecoming 2017. Visitors enjoyed a beautiful, if blustery, weekend, catching up with friends and classmates and spending some time back on campus.

In a new event for 2017, the Middlebury Alumni Office partnered with the student Middlebury College Activities Board to sponsor a harvest festival, which was held on the plaza behind the Mahaney Center for the Arts. Enjoying some of the delights of Addison County, alumni sipped craft beers, sampled a wide selection of pies and local apples, and carved pumpkins, with bluegrass music provided by the popular Snake Mountain Bluegrass Band.

“We love welcoming alumni back to campus, and we could not have asked for a more perfect late fall weekend to share Middlebury with them,” said Beth Connor P’12, P’14, director of Alumni and Parent Programs.

More than 250 alumni joined students at the harvest fest, said Connor. In addition to all the other fall fare, guests enjoyed oysters donated by Will Peckham ’14, who co-founded West Robins Oyster Company. West Robins—a sustainable oyster farm in Southampton, N.Y.—grew out of the Innovation Hub’s Middlebury Entrepreneurs winter term class.

The Panthers had mixed success on the athletic fields over Homecoming weekend. Field hockey beat Bates 4-1 in the NESCAC quarterfinals, while football suffered a 27-5 loss to Trinity and women’s soccer lost to Hamilton 1-0.
