Lecture and discussion: “Who Owns the Past?

Native American Perspectives on Archaeology and History” by Donna

Roberts Moody and John Moody of the Abenaki Nation. Do Native American

interpretations of prehistoric materials carry more weight than theories

presented by archaeologists and historians? The speakers will discuss

the politics of how the public understands Vermont’s past. Topics

will include Abenaki ethnohistory, the repatriation of archaeological

materials, and how prehistoric and historical social dynamics shape contemporary

Abenaki issues in Vermont.
