About Jason Mittell

Jason Mittell's expertise is television, popular culture and media in American history and contemporary society. His research interests include television narrative, media history and criticism, media industries and society, animation and children's media, and new media studies and digital technology.

He is the author of Genre and Television: From Cop Shows to Cartoons in American Culture (Routledge, 2004) and Television and American Culture (Oxford University Press, 2010), as well as numerous articles and book chapters. He has been interviewed on topics such as reality television, The Wire, children and the media, videogames, TiVo, and the end of Lost.
