In accepting the Lamberti Award, Matt Dickinson said you can’t be an effective professor without great students.

The Student Government Association conferred its annual Marjorie Lamberti Faculty Appreciation Award and its Rodney and Beverly DeGray Staff Appreciation Award at a reception on May 10 in Crossroads Cafe.

Reshma Gogineni ‘16, an SGA senior senator, presented the Lamberti Award to Professor Matt Dickinson of the political science department and said he is both “well-loved by his students” and considered one of the toughest professors at Middlebury.

Dickinson is “dedicated to pushing his students to enable their analytical capabilities and their ability to conduct meaningful research,” the SGA senator said. A scholar of the American presidency, Dickinson noted in his remarks how ironic it was that he won the Lamberti Award during an academic year while he is on sabbatical.

The award was created in honor of Professor Emeritus Marjorie Lamberti and recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as dedication by giving of their time, energy, and effort.

Senior Senator Madeleine Raber ‘16 presented the DeGray Award to Associate Director Jennifer Herrera of the Anderson Freeman Resource Center. Herrera “brings a sense of vitality, calm, and home to the Anderson-Freeman Center and to the larger Middlebury community.”

Herrera, who holds an M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College, devotes her entire “mind, body, and soul into building community at the new center” housed in Carr Hall, said Raber. “It is a fantastic resource for all students [by] promoting diversity and inclusivity on the campus.”

The staff appreciation award honors former staff members Beverly and Rodney DeGray, who worked tirelessly for Middlebury College for decades. The award is given to a staff member who goes above and beyond their role for the betterment of Middlebury students.
