Staff Members Enjoy Annual Summer Fest (slide show)

August 30, 2017

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hundreds upon hundreds of Middlebury employees enjoyed a break from their jobs at the second annual Staff Fest on the McCullough Lawn on Thursday, August 10.

The day yielded a perfect summer afternoon – with bright sunshine, low humidity, and temperatures in the 80s – for the Middlebury staff event. Everyone gathered around for lawn games, food, refreshments, live music, and plenty of good conversation.

President Patton, who was out of town, kicked off the fest with a sincere message of thanks. “I am so sorry I can’t be with you this year,” she said in a note read by Karen Miller, vice president of human resources. “But I love that we have created this tradition, and the dunking booth will be even more fun this year; I just know it!

“Please know that even with all the merriment and music, we are really serious in our appreciation of all you are and all you do at Middlebury. You make this institution what it is! I see it and remember it every day.”

In addition to the fun and games, there was a “gratitude board” where dozens of staff members wrote notes of appreciation to each other. The many food offerings at Staff Fest included brick oven pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs, ice cream, soft drinks, and watermelon.

The event was coordinated by Staff Council and the Staff Fest Committee, which did the majority of the planning and operations for the event.

Missey Thompson, president of Staff Council, remarked that “the time away from our busy routines was a wonderful break.” She thanked President Patton, the members of the SLG, Facilities Services, and Dining Service.

“We are already looking forward to doing it again next year,” Thompson added, “and we will be recruiting new volunteers to help organize the event.”
