The Middlebury School of the Environment run its six-week summer program in China starting in 2018.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – For the first time since its founding in 2014, Middlebury’s School of the Environment will convene its six-week session in China. The 2018 program will be based in Yunnan Province, with dual sites in Dali—a small city in the western reaches of Yunnan province and the foothills of the Himalayas—and Kunming, the province’s capital and largest city.

The program, which has run for the past four summers in Middlebury, has always been slated to move abroad after being established and cultivated in Vermont.

“We are especially excited about marrying two of Middlebury’s strengths—its global perspective and the study of the environment—in a country that will be so crucial to global environmental issues in the coming decades,” said Jeff Cason, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the schools.

The School of the Environment will leverage Middlebury’s established location in Kunming to deliver its three-unit curriculum. The School of the Environment is designed to give students an immersive learning experience that includes core course work, electives, leadership training, and field experiences.
