Middlebury and Digital Pulp Win Award for Institute Website

January 23, 2019

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury and Digital Pulp, a website agency, have won a 2018 Gold W³ Award from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (
AIVA) for the redesign of the Middlebury Institute website. The award was for the 13th annual competition’s general website category for a school or university. Middlebury hired Digital Pulp in 2016 to assist with the redesign of its website.

At Middlebury, the Digital Services group in the Office of Communications and Marketing and Middlebury Information Technology Services (IT) led the project.

“Winning the Gold W³ Award is a great honor and we’re very pleased,” said Aaron Smith, director of Digital Services. “Many people in Middlebury and Monterey contributed to this effort and worked very hard on it, so it’s nice to receive the recognition as we continue to work on the website redesign for the College and all of Middlebury’s other programs and schools.”

Receiving over 5,000 entries from across the globe, the W³ Awards honor outstanding websites, web marketing, web video, mobile sites and apps, and social content produced by some of the top advertising agencies, public relations firms, interactive agencies, in-house creative professionals, web designers, graphic designers, and web enthusiasts. According to the W³ website, the awards offer the first major web competition accessible to all organizations, ranging from small firms to large agencies.

AIVA’s judges select, on average, less than 10 percent of all entries as Gold Winners.

“The creativity and quality of this season’s entries surpassed even our grandest expectations. As the digital landscape continues to expand and break new ground, our winners are a testament to the creative capability that makes the Internet a true work of art.” said Derek Howard, director of the AIVA. “On behalf of the over 750 members of the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, we laud the talents and dedication our winners showcased and commend all of this year’s entrants for their commitment to furthering the quality of the digital content we view.”
