Middlebury College Language Schools’ New German

for Singers Program Goes to Stowe

Students and faculty of the German for Singers program,

part of the Middlebury College Language Schools, have put together

a program for guests of the Trapp Family Lodge this summer, in

Stowe.

The German for Singers program is directed by Dr.

Brenda Smith, coordinator of musical activities at the German

School, one of the eight summer session schools within the Middlebury

College Language Schools program. German for Singers integrates

the study of the German language, literature, and culture with

music history, vocal pedagogy, and performance. Lectures and

master classes, private coaching, and individual tutoring complement

formal classroom instruction. In a carefully structured, total-immersion

environment, students gain the skills and confidence required

to become singing artists with German language proficiency and

insight into the vocal repertoire of German-speaking cultures.

The Trapp Family Lodge engagement will consist of

vocal selections with piano accompaniment, and will include music

by Mozart, Schumann, and selections from Brahms’ Liebeslieder

Walzer among others.
