Onis Elizabeth Cheathams Appointed to Associate
Director of Admissions
Middlebury College has named Onis Elizabeth Cheathams
to the position of associate director of admissions. Prior to
her acceptance of the Middlebury position, she served on the staff
of the University of Michigan, first as a senior admissions counselor,
and most recently as a pre-college coordinator in the office of
academic multicultural initiatives. Her primary responsibility
at the College will be admissions recruitment with an emphasis
on multicultural students.
Cheathams is a graduate of Grand Valley State University
in Michigan and holds an M.A. in guidance and counseling from
Eastern Michigan University.
An educator interested in assuring equal education
opportunities for all students, Cheathams noted, “Middlebury
College is committed to reaching out to a wide range of students.
The College also recognizes the importance of encouraging a
diverse student body, one that enriches the cultural, intellectual
and social exchange that is part of a college education.”
Throughout her career in higher education administration, Cheathams
has created and implemented initiatives focused on increasing
and maintaining diversity, including a comprehensive minority
recruitment program, and a series of social and academic activities
for an ethnically diverse student body. She also developed and
administered scholarship programs for pre-college and college
students, including Native American, African American, Asian American
and Latino students.
