Margaret Lattimore, Mezzo-Soprano, and Pianist
Brian Zeger to Appear at the Middlebury College Center for the
Arts

A recent graduate of the Metropolitan Opera Young
Artist Program, American mezzo-soprano Margaret Lattimore will
perform in the Concert Hall with pianist Brian Zeger at the Middlebury
College Center for the Arts on Friday, Sept. 26 at 8:00 p.m. Lattimore’s
concert is the second event in the Middlebury College 1997-1998
Concert Series and is presented in association with the Marilyn
Horne Foundation.

As an artist in residence at the College from Sept.
22-26, she also will lead local interactive musical sessions with
community groups, school children and College students.

Spanning many centuries and styles, Lattimore’s performance
will include “Das Rosenband” and other works by Richard
Strauss, selections from Hector Berlioz’s “Les Nuits di Ete,”
and several Benjamin Britten arrangements of Henry Purcell’s songs.
The varied program also features cabaret songs, from Ben Moore’s
“Who can say what love is!” to Gene Scheer and Lee Musiken’s
“Eating the blues away.”

Lattimore has performed at the Metropolitan Opera
and at theaters throughout the United States. “New York Magazine”
describes her as “…a 24 year old mezzo-soprano who sang
the rondo-finale of Rossini’s La Cenerentola with a beautifully
textured burned-caramel voice, an unclouded two-and-a-half-octave
range, and agile technique, and an infectious musical sparkle,
all of which single her out as a very special talent.” This
season, she looks forward to debuts with the Washington Opera,
Opera Pacific, and the Calgary Opera in Canada. Equally successful
on the concert stage, Lattimore appears this year with the Minnesota
Orchestra and the Colorado Symphony.

Since he played his New York recital debut at Lincoln
Center little more than a decade ago, Zeger has built a career
as a solo pianist and chamber performer, collaborating with such
musicians as Itzhak Perlman and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.

Tickets for this concert series performance are $9.00
general admission and $7.00 for senior citizens. A pre-performance
dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Rehearsals Cafe in the Center for the
Arts is also available. To order tickets or make dinner reservations,
please call the College box office at 802-443-6433.
