College Center for the Arts

Pianist Emanuel Ax will perform in the Concert Hall
at the Middlebury College Center for the Arts on Sunday, November
23 at 7:30 p.m. Ax’s program will include sonatas by Beethoven
and several of Chopin’s waltzes.

Ax’s career has encompassed many prestigious prizes,
performances with every major symphony orchestra from the Boston
Symphony to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, countless recitals
in the greatest concert halls, and a catalogue of recordings.
He also appears regularly at the festivals of Aspen, the BBC
Proms, Blossom, Edinburgh, the Hollywood Bowl, Mostly Mozart,
Ravinia and Tanglewood.

Ax captured public attention in 1974 when, at age
25, he won the First Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition
in Tel Aviv. In 1975 he won the Michaels Award of Young Concert
Artists and four years later, took the coveted Avery Fisher Prize.
An RCA recording contract followed, and many of his more than
20 albums became best-sellers and won top honors. In 1987 he
became an exclusive Sony Classical recording artist, making his
debut on that label with a collection of Chopin scherzos and mazurkas.

Devoted to chamber music literature, Mr. Ax regularly
performs duo recitals with Yo-Yo Ma, and their recordings of the
cello and piano repertoire have earned three Grammy Awards.

Tickets for this concert series performance are $9.00
general admission and $7.00 for senior citizens. Reserved seating
will be in effect. A pre-performance dinner at 6:00 p.m. at the
Rehearsals Cafe in the Center for the Arts is also available.
