Vermont’s Act 60 to be Topic of Talk at Middlebury
College

Middlebury College Professor of Political Science
Eric Davis will speak about Vermont’s Act 60 on Friday, January
9, 1998 at 4:15 p.m. The event will be held in the Redfield Proctor
room on the second floor of Proctor Hall on the Middlebury College
campus.

Professor Davis will address three major themes regarding
the Act 60 legislation, which was enacted in 1997 to restructure
school financing in Vermont:

· The Vermont
Supreme Court decision in Brigham v. The State of Vermont:
how the Vermont court decision relates to decisions of other
states’ courts on school financing issues;

· Act 60 explained:
an explanation of Act 60’s provisions and how it is likely to
affect various groups and individuals;

· The politics
of Act 60: a discussion of how the legislation might be changed
by the legislature, its effect on the next election, and its implications
for Governor Howard Dean’s political future.

Professor Davis will answer questions from the audience
following his presentation. The public is invited to attend.
