Soprano Sari Gruber to Perform at Middlebury College Center for the Arts on Feb. 11

An accomplished soprano whose repertoire spans nine languages, Sari Gruber will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11 in the Concert Hall of the Middlebury College Center for the Arts on Route 30. Gruber, who has enjoyed acclaim for her interpretations of lyric Mozart roles, will be accompanied by pianist Cameron Stowe.

Gruber excels in a wide range of musical styles. After her 1998 performance in “Le Nozze di Figaro” at the New York City Opera, The New York Times reported, “Sari Gruber was an engaging Susanna with fine comic instincts.” Opera magazine exclaimed, “Sari Gruber’s Susanna was nothing short of sensational.” In Bright Sheng’s “Two Poems from the Sung Dynasty,” The New York Times noted, “The soprano Sari Gruber, singing in Chinese, brought rich-toned beauty to her work.”

Gruber has appeared with a number of major opera houses, including the Los Angeles Opera, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the New York Festival of Song in Chicago. She sang Benjamin Britten’s “Peter Grimes” under Seiji Ozawa at Tanglewood.

Gruber’s performance at Middlebury College is made possible by the Marilyn Horne Foundation, whose mission is to support recitals by outstanding young singers. Her appearance is the fourth such recital the foundation has supported at the College.
