MIDDLEBURY,
VT - Womensing, an a cappella group of six women
performing songs from around the world, will give a concert
on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Middlebury College
Center for the Arts Concert Hall on South Main Street (Route
30). The group will also perform at the Lincoln Library in
Lincoln on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. Both events are
free and open to the public.

Based in
Addison County, Womensing draws its repertoire from the
musical heritage of its members—French-Canadian, Chinese,
Italian and American—as well as from other cultures. In
presenting this music, the group seeks to invoke universal
themes of community, love, freedom and hope. With
arrangements that juxtapose solo and ensemble voices, and
with harmonies that range from simple to layered, Womensing
encourages audiences of all ages to travel the globe in its
vocal journey.

Womensing
has performed at different venues at the College and
throughout Vermont, including First Night in Burlington and
Rutland, Festival on the Green in Middlebury, the Ripton
Coffee House, Goddard College and the Pyralisk in
Montpelier. The group is currently working on producing its
first compact disc.

The Jan. 27
concert is sponsored by four Middlebury College
organizationsthe office for institutional diversity, the
women’s and gender studies program, Atwater Commons and
PALANA Center (Pan African, Latino, Asian, Native
American).
