Lecture by author of “Affluenza” to speak at Middlebury College

Lecture by author of “Affluenza:” John de Graaf, author of “Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic” (2001) and founder of “Take Back Your Time Day,” will give a talk titled “America Needs a Break: How Overconsumption and Overwork Harm our Health, Families, Communities, and Environment.” De Graaf, who is the co-chair of the Public Policy Committee for the Simplicity Forum, a national think tank for the voluntary simplicity movement, is also a producer of numerous documentaries for public television station KCTS-TV in Seattle on the subject of environmentalism and American consumerism. He is the recipient of more than a 100 regional, national and international awards for filmmaking, and of the Founders of a New Northwest Award for his work in environmental media.

Adventure Travel Presentation

Adventure Travel Presentation: Mandip Singh Soin will present slides and stories of his own expeditions, which range from trekking and climbing in the Indian Himalaya, the Alps and Scotland, to travel adventures, including a camel safari across the Indian Thar Desert and elephant trips in the jungles of South India. Singh Soin, who is internationally recognized for his work with India’s eco-tourism industry, is owner of Ibex Expeditions.
