Reading: Marathon Reading of Homer’s “Iliad”

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.-Beginning Friday evening, Sept. 30, from 7-9 p.m., the Middlebury College Classics Department will sponsor a marathon reading of Homer’s “Iliad,” in English. The “Iliad” is an epic Greek poem that recounts the siege of Troy and includes memorable allusions to ancient art, heroics of war and enduring literary images. The reading, by both students and faculty, will continue through Oct. 2, beginning at 10 a.m. each morning on Saturday and Sunday until 7 p.m. each evening. The classics department hopes to make readings such as this an annual event, highlighting a different text each year. The reading will be held on the steps of the Middlebury College Library and is open and free to the public.
