On Sunday, February 12, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of the College Katy Smith Abbott sent the following advisory to students:

Dear Students:
A winter storm warning has been issued for all of Vermont and Northern New York from 10 a.m. this morning through 7 p.m. on Monday. Heavy snow falls and high winds are predicted, particularly this afternoon into this evening. I realize that many of you have plans to travel back to Middlebury today, and I am writing to ask that you exercise extreme caution, delaying your travel if necessary. Your safety is our chief concern. If you determine that you will not be here for the first day of classes, please e-mail your professors to apprise them of your plans. All of us here in Vermont are well aware that driving conditions are likely to become extremely difficult, and that flights may be delayed or canceled.

I look forward to welcoming you back to snowy Vermont—in the meantime, please travel safely.

All the best,

Katy Smith Abbott
VP for Student Affairs and Dean of the College
