MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) has announced that construction on a new temporary bus stop and shelter on Academy Street will begin November 13, 2017. The three-year relocation from Merchant’s Row in Middlebury was initiated to accommodate the replacement of two downtown railroad bridges on Main Street and Merchant’s Row.

The bus hub plan calls for all street parking in front of Twilight Hall to become a dedicated bus zone. The curb will be cut back eight feet to meet the sidewalk on Academy Street in front of Twilight Hall in order to move buses away from the traffic flow.

ACTR will install a passenger shelter near the corner of Academy and Franklin Streets, along with flashing beacons and a stoplight interrupter to give priority passage to buses exiting to South Main Street.

Construction of the bus hub is expected to wrap up by December 1, according to ACTR.
