MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The latest primary results have brought a little more clarity to the presidential campaign. Marco Rubio, routed in his home state of Florida, has dropped out, while John Kasich finally gained a win in his important home state of Ohio. Professor Matt Dickinson, who traveled to Florida to follow the Rubio campaign in the days leading up to that state’s primary vote, said Rubio’s campaign woes were evident in low rally turnouts and negative media coverage.

John Kasich’s surge in Ohio has renewed discussions in the media of a contested convention in July. Professor Bert Johnson still believes that scenario is unlikely, but he concedes that it’s less unlikely than he’s ever seen it in his lifetime due to the fragmented delegate count and a strong anti-Trump sentiment among the Republican establishment.

In this installment of Professor Pundits, Matt and Bert discuss what a “brokered,” or contested, convention would look like if it were to take place, and what it would mean for the Republican party.

Dickinson writes the blog Presidential Power and is frequently quoted in the national news media. He often live tweets political events at @MattDickinson44. Johnson, also a regular in the national media, tweets at @bnjohns.
