More than 250 students participated in the Spring Symposium, Middlebury’s annual celebration of undergraduate research and creative work covering a full range of academic disciplines. The day began with a performance by the Dance Company of Middlebury at Tormondsen Great Hall, which served as the main hub of activity throughout the day. Symposium co-chair Professor Mike Sheridan thanked the many faculty, staff and students who worked for months to put on the event. In addition to Sheridan and his co-chair Professor Amy Morsman, the sessions committee included faculty members Sharon Wang, Erin Sassin, Amanda Crocker, and Grace Spatafora.

President Ian Baucom also welcomed the crowd to the Great Hall. “This is my first Spring Symposium at Midd, and I could not be more excited to partake and explore and learn from you,” said Baucom. “Each April, we gather here in Bicentennial Hall to recognize and celebrate the life of the mind at Middlebury. It’s a day dedicated to inquiry, curiosity, creativity, and scholarship as exhibited by you—our students—and shared with your peers, mentors, and members of the greater Middlebury community.”

Student presenters and their audiences filled rooms throughout McCardell Bicentennial Hall for morning and afternoon rounds of oral presentations. Following each of the oral presentation sessions, the crowd returned to the Great Hall and adjoining Quantitative Center for poster presentations.
