“Assessing the Iran Nuclear Deal: A Conversation with Congressman Sam Farr and CNS/MIIS Experts”
Congressman Farr will speak about the importance of the Iran deal from a Congressional perspective. Dr. Bill Potter will provide an overview of Iran’s nuclear program and moderate a discussion by Dr. Jeffrey Lewis on the deal’s verification provisions and Dr. Avner Cohen on Israeli perspectives on the deal. Dr. Jeffrey Dayton-Johnson, MIIS Vice President for Academic Affairs will introduce the evening’s speakers.
Congressman Sam Farr represents the Monterey Bay Region in the U.S Congress. He serves on the powerful House Appropriation Committee and is an active participant in congressional foreign policy debates. He served in the Peace Corps in Colombia from 1964-1967.
Dr. William Potter is the Sam Nunn and Richard Lugar Professor of Nonproliferation Studies and Founding Director of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. He is the author or editor of over 20 books dealing with nonproliferation and international security.
Dr. Jeffrey Lewis is Director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Dr. Lewis also founded and maintains the leading blog on nuclear arms control and nonproliferation, ArmsControlWonk.com.
Dr. Avner Cohen, widely known for his path-breaking history of the Israeli nuclear program, is a Professor in the Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies Program at MIIS. His latest book is The Worst Kept Secret: Israel’s Bargain with the Bomb, published by Columbia University Press.
